Halloween Weekend

Having my mum and sister whisk me away to North Yorkshire for Halloween weekend was a massively welcome break from uni work (I probably should of listened when everyone told me that third year would be a lot more work!). The weekend away meant that we all got to spend some quality time with our Nanny, and that me and my sister got to go on a couple of adventures on the moors and around the idyllic little town of Richmond hunting for vintage bargains and paying our customary visit to the little pet shop to 'awww' over the baby rabbits and adverts for adorable puppies that we wish we could take home.

But the best find was discovered in Nanny's wardrobe, my mum found the sheepskin coat that she was given for her 21st birthday. It had barely been worn and it just so happens that I am the same size as my mum was then... what a coincidence!

It was a brilliant weekend with our evenings spent eating sweets with our biggest worry being how we were going to carve the pumpkin!

Then on actually Halloween my inner child went wild with the face paints as my theme was Sugar Skulls!!

What did you do for your Halloween celebrations?

Road Trip!

About a month ago my sister decided to do a post on Churchill Square Shopping Centre in Brighton and the new Autumn/Winter trends.  Fortunately for me, my sister doesn't drive so lucky me got to tag along as the chauffeur/photographer for an afternoon drinking coffee and discovering all the new Autumn/Winter pieces in the high-street stores.  We had a wonderful afternoon window shopping, trying on the new trends and then sitting on the beach with a cheeky portion of cheesy chips.

Now I cant wait for my student load to drop so I can pick up a few of the items on my wishlist... to be worn for educational purposes of course!

I really love all the embellishment and gold detail this season, it makes me think of the opulence of the 1920's and 30's ladies wrapped in their mink shall's against the snow, hailing a cab in Art Deco London; I think it adds a bit of old school glamour to our dull cold winter and the animal motifs add the ever needed fun!

What is your favourite A/W trend and why?

10 Things About Abigail Robyn

I have recently been tagged by my sister to answer 10 questions about myself, so here goes!

What is your theme song?
I think it would have to be Hakuna Matata from The Lion King.  I am quite often called laid back and I am usually too busy doing something interesting/fun/silly to be worrying about the stuff I probably should be pulling my hair out over!

What is your least favourite food?
Mushrooms.  Definitely.  I can be a very fussy eater and mushrooms just look, smell and taste nasty, and don't even get me started on the yucky texture!

What was your favourite childhood toy?
I don't know if this counts, but I had a Snow White costume that I loved!

What is your favourite housecleaning chore?
Probably hoovering as it seems to me like the easiest one with the best results.

What did you want to be when you're older?
I used to have a plan that involved being a nurse, a vet, a charity worker and a busy mum all at once, now the plan is to just make money as it is definitely lacking from my life at the moment!

What is your favourite colour?
Red.  Don't even need to think about this one, it has always be red.

What generation do you wish you had been part of?
I am pretty happy with this generation, as a psychology student the social advances that are being made/have been made recently really interest me.

What are your goals for the future?
Happiness, health and the same for all my family (and to have a gorgeous house of course!).

What is most likely to cheer you up?
Usually my boyfriend, friends and family can cheer me up, if not then a few hours alone with a good book usually does the trick (or Christmas!)

Garnier B.B. Cream Review

Recently all I have been seeing on TV is adverts for B.B. creams, and I have to admit that I had no idea what they where or what they did. But now I have been enlightened and converted into a B.B. cream lover!  A couple of weeks ago, while I was browsing through the Student Beans website I stumbled upon a free sample of Garnier's B.B. cream and had to satisfy my curiosity (fortunately this time curiosity has not killed the cat!). A few days later, I found this on my door step...

Inside the nifty packaging, I was pleasantly surprised to find three large samples inside, along with an introduction to Garnier's Miracle Skin Perfector, B.B. cream.  B.B. stands for Blemish Balm, which is a product that combines the benefits of make-up and skincare and is essentially used to hydrate skin and provide coverage. Garnier claim that the product can be used either on its own, as a primer or as a touch up. Here's what I thought...

     The Good
  • The first thing you notice about the product is the smell, I find it to have a light, refreshing, fruity fragrance which brightens my mornings.
  • The cream blends in to my skin really well, with a lot more coverage than I had expected.
  • The product also fells really light on my skin.
  • In Boots a tube of Garnier's B.B. cream will only set you back about £7.50, which I think is really good value for this 'all-rounder' product
     The Bad
  • The only bad thing I can think of about this product, is that it does leave my skin looking a little dewy so that a little powder is needed on top.
Overall I really like this product, and as soon as I have £7.50 to spare I will be off to Boots in a shot!  I would give this product an 8/10!

Looking back

Now that I have come the end of my second year at uni, and the time to pack up the house and head home for the summer has come, I have found myself looking back at the last two years.  Since leaving school and taking my first few steps in to the real world, plenty has changed.  Two birthdays have passed (with two yummy cakes), making me a grand total of 20 years old, though when people ask I automatically want to tell them that I am still only 18!

First year seemed to fly by in a blur of vodka jelly, shots, fancy dress, meeting new people, the dreaded revision at the end of the year and of course packing.  Although going to uni meant moving to Nottingham, away from family and old friends it has to be the best thing I have done so far in my life.  It didn't take me long to fall for the city, the uni life style and Nottingham prices!  And being away from home for months at a time really makes me appreciate those lovely weekends spent at home, with the momma bear and catching up with friends.

I thought that first year went fast, but then second year passed at lightening speed!  This time in a blur of work, (attempted) pole dancing, vodka jelly, shots, fancy dress, meeting new people, the dreaded revision at the end of the year and of course packing.  I cant believe that there is only one year left, I think that the one piece of advice I would give to anyone about to go to uni is to savour every moment, as it passes quicker then you might think!

If you go to uni, what would be your piece of advice?

Ikea

I have to say that I do love my road trips, whether it be hitting the motorways going down to Brighton, or getting lost on the winding roads of the Yorkshire Dales.  All we (myself and my sister) would need was my trusty car and our cute mascot...

But then this happened to my trusty car (cow print seat covers and all)...

It was a devastating moment in my life, and has taken me nearly a year to admit defeat and try to sell my precious baby =[  However life has gone on and I got insured on the mothers car for the summer (win!). Anyway, now that my sister has graduated and has had to (temporarily) move back home, we have realised that two twenty somethings having to share a room for 3 months is going to be cramped to say the least.  The situation not being helped by that fact that I still have a high sleeper, cabin bed, with the only wardrobe in the room squeezed under the bed with the desk.  This means that when one of us decides to tidy (a rare occurrence) our room ends up looking like this...

Time for change! Which also means a re-con trip to Ikea, which the 8 year old in me lives for!  I love Ikea, mainly for the scrummy meatballs but also for the cute little apartment set ups and generally amazing stuff that can be found in the showroom or the market hall.  We were on a hunt for a bed and a wardrobe with lots and lots of nooks and crannies, and were partly successfully.  We did find a perfect wardrobe, my sister also found some sweet plant pots that could double as make up holders, as well as finding some meatballs to take home in the food hall and an orange moose!

What is your favourite thing about Ikea?

Nail Art

I was always one of those children constantly nibbling on their nails, until I discovered nail polish, realised how nasty it tasted and how much I liked actually letting my nails grow.  Not long ago my sister, the queen of procrastination, discovered dotting tools for your nails and gave me a little start up kit for my birthday.  Having the mental age of a five year old on birthdays and at Christmas, I didn't want to wait to try out my new toys and insisted that my mum paint something pretty on my nails, which turned out to be some cute little bunnies!

During the recent exam period the design on my nails changed every couple of days, providing me with plenty of excuses to put off the dreaded revision!  And in the last few months my nails have been subjected to all kinds of  'art', in the form of cupcakes, cherry blossom, cute little owls and most recently sunset palm trees, which is close as I can get to lying on a beach right now!

Vintage Nation One Day Festival

A couple of weeks ago I decided to go and visit my sister down in Brighton, this little road trip happily coincided with the first ever Vintage Nation event at Brighton Racecourse.  In my earlier years, events like this would have meant me trailing around after my mum and sister dreaming about that glorious moment when we would happen upon some kind of food stall selling yummy treats or an ice cream van; however in more recent times, spending a day at a fair or at a car-boot, its not just the yummy edible treats that catch my attention, but the pretty, vintage bargains that are waiting to be found (this must be what it feels like to be a grown-up!).

thoroughly enjoyed spending the afternoon rummaging through the many wonderful stalls at the event, and found some darling little shot glasses and some gorgeous items of clothing; one floor length, white, cotton dress caught my attention in particular...but then so did the price tag.  If I wasn't a poor little student then I could have easily spent hundreds in the few hours that we were there, but unfortunately I had to leave empty handed, while my sister went home with a cute kitsch little dear, after being seduced by his big eyes.
